I like things. I like people. I especially like the lady person pictured above. I am over-fond of text. Books, television, films, poetry, theatre. I will post Roman things, mythology things, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Buffy (and Angel and Firefly and Dr. Horrible and Dollhouse), Stephen Sondheim, My Little Pony. ee cummings gets an automatic reblog. Oh, I knit, too. Just never enough.
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
I was at the Kansas City Public Library the other day, and I was looking through their Tolkien offerings. Bless them, they have quite the compliment of The Histories of Middle-earth; naturally, I went to pick up Morgoth’s Ring in order to determine to what the title refers—as far as I was aware, the Dark Lord in the First Age was not so fond of accesorising as his Lieutenant. Right inside the binding, I found two sticky notes on which was written:
Congratulations
on having a better
sex life than any
of the people who
were jerks in high
school. Nerds are thesexiest lovers any
person could ask
for, and if somebody
isn’t grateful for you
right now, they sure
will be soon.
it was signed with a heart and what I assume was meant to be the author’s name written in tengwar. But to the best of my knowledge, nobody is named ‘oanionl’.
But the bad Tengwar isn’t a problem. Regardless of the confrontational tone of the note, that somebody would care to leave such a loving treat in such an obscure book that in order to find it one would have to be one of us makes me so pleased to be a reader, a Ringer, a Kansas Citian, and a human.
I was grinning too. : D
The tolkien tag has been making me grin stupidly-fondly a few times by now, but this got by far the biggest grin yet. :3
