It occurs to me that the ‘Sweet Nothing’ synth hook has a rhythm remarkably similar to the one from ‘Opening Doors’: what about the book?/ what about the book?/ did you give the blisher the book?/ yes!/ good!/ no…/ Mary!
Obviously, it breaks down a little at the end, but it’s still remarkably similar.

When your father complains that Sondheim is annoying and writes illogical melodies
so you play him ‘Color and Light’ and ‘Finishing the Hat’, which have very logical melodies, and you might as well bang your head against the wall
