I like things. I like people. I especially like the lady person pictured above. I am over-fond of text. Books, television, films, poetry, theatre. I will post Roman things, mythology things, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Buffy (and Angel and Firefly and Dr. Horrible and Dollhouse), Stephen Sondheim, My Little Pony. ee cummings gets an automatic reblog. Oh, I knit, too. Just never enough.

My little brother is belting Could I Leave You in the next room.

I have succeeded.

Sondheim always wins

So the other day I’m singing Merrily, like you do, and I’m changing up tempo and style. Then I sing ‘Meet the Blob…’ and think mother of God—IT’S THE SAME AS ‘NOW OLD FRIEND’ IN GROWING UP.

Saw ‘Next to Normal’ on Tuesday; going to see ‘In the Heights’ tomorrow!

N2N was okay. It’s a flawed libretto, overlong, and often trite. But it’s still pretty good. My inner director was peeved from time to time by certain choices, most particularly, I recall, the blocking in ‘Hey #3/Perfect for You (Resprise)’. I’m not gonna post a catalogue of grievances (for that would be tedious), but suffice to say that the show needs a better editor than it got.

I do, however, have great expectations of In the Heights. For one thing, I get to go with my lady, which is always more fun, and we’re picnicking beforehand.
